The employer must look at ways of eliminating and reducing manual handling activities staff carry out.
There are many activities that require staff to manual handle, and the majority of these activities are essential in order for an organisation to function. However, activities that cannot be avoided must be assessed for risk. Principals of carrying out risk assessments are covered later in this session.
The manual handling regulations include patient and general manual handling activities, such as transferring a patient from outpatients to a ward.
