Under the Health and Safety At Work Act (HASAWA 1974), the employer has a general duty to:

Ensure, so far as is reasonably practicable, the health, safety and welfare of its employees whilst at work.

It is essential for health and social care workers to understand what the term ‘so far as is reasonably practicable’ means in practice.
