What is statutory training?
Statutory training is the compulsory training that is required by law or whereby a statutory body has instructed an organisation or sector to provide training on the basis of specific legislation, e.g. the Health and Safety at Work Act 1974 and the Management of Health and Safety at Work Regulations 1999.
What is mandatory training?
Mandatory training is the training that is required for doctors, nurses, allied health professionals and health & social care workers to work in a safe and effective manner. The mandatory training course has core training modules that are delivered at the appropriate depth and understanding for health and social care staff.
Why is statutory & mandatory training required?
Health and social care providers often describe both statutory & mandatory training as ‘essential’ or ‘compulsory’ training in line with Care Quality Commission (CQC) regulatory requirements. These training courses provide healthcare and social care staff with information, knowledge and skills to competently maintain a healthy and safe working environment for themselves, their colleagues and service users. Statutory and mandatory training also help organisations to limit risk and maintain safe working practice. Staff are usually required to complete a comprehensive induction program, then complete the rest of their statutory and mandatory training within the first year of employment.
