For her commitment to enhancing the learning environment, Alvernia assistant professor of nursing Cynthia Rothenberger, DNP, RN, ACNS, BC, is one of 35 nursing faculty participating in a American Association of Colleges of Nursing (AACN) bootcamp to equip nursing educators with cutting-edge digital learning strategies.

“Use of digital technology is an increasing area of focus in health care, and I’ll share what I have learned with colleagues at Alvernia, which will support us in providing cutting-edge, evidence-based education to our students,” said Rothenberger.

The 2019 Digital Innovation Bootcamp: From Content to Action, which drew a pool of more than 130 candidates nationwide, showcases sessions on preparing digital content, developing iOS mobile apps and multitouch books, and creating an engaging learning environment.

“Rapid advances in technology are transforming both how students learn and how they are taught,” said Dr. Ann Cary, Chair of the AACN Board of Directors. “I applaud those selected to attend this year’s bootcamp for their commitment to leveraging the latest technology and digital innovations to foster a truly interactive learning experience for today’s nursing student.”

Rothenberger, who specializes in medical-surgical and maternal-child nursing, routinely uses classroom response technologies, online platforms for collaborative assignments and podcasts to provide a variety of learning experiences that can meet each student’s unique needs and to increase student engagement in course content.

Participants in the highly-selective boot camp represent 21 states plus the District of Columbia and an array of institution types, including small liberal arts programs, public and private schools, and large academic health centers. Those attending June 24-27 in Austin, Texas, will share details about their projects produced as part of this immersion experience at an upcoming AACN conference.
